Hi my name is Zak Shepherd and i am currently a freshman at the Univeristy of Cincinnati. I am 18 years old and am from Lewis Center, OH. I have a 19 year old sister who attends BGSU and is majoring in special education. I am majoring in Secondary Education(Mathematics) and Mathematics. I chose this field because i really love math and have always excelled at it. Also my grandfather was a college math professor and i have always looked up to him, math is something I'm very passionate about. At UC i am also involved in the honors program and The Bearcats Bands. Outside of UC i am involved in my church and work part time as a grocery clerk at Kroger.

5. Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
I think this standard is very important in a teacher’s career. It is important that teachers look professional and maintain a good relationship with other teachers and students. Teachers are the key to students’ future. It is important that they grow in themselves so that they can help their students grow. Teachers can also be seen as leaders within a community. It is important that they stay current on their knowledge so they can relate to citizens of the community. Teachers can do this by growing personally and professionally. Also included in this is relating well with other teachers. It is important to have a sense of community in the workplace and an easy way to do this is by knowing what other co-workers are doing.
1. Creativity and Innovation
As a student it is important to allow your imagination to play apart in your learning. As a teacher it is important to allow your students to use their imagination and creativity. I believe that a student needs to be allowed to have a lot of creative freedom. As a teacher I will do my best do allow my students that creative freedom. It is possible to do this by using different teaching techniques to stimulate new thoughts and ideas. This standard is important because in the world new technology is created through new ideas. It is not possible to create new ideas if teachers don’t allow room for it.
1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
As important as many other standards are, this one is by far the most important. This standard is the most important because of the main reason teachers are teachers. Kids need to learn, that’s what teachers are there for. I know that I want to be a teacher because I want to help kids learn. That’s everything this standard is talking about. It is important for kids to learn because without learning there is no community, no advancement in anything, and the world will pretty much cease to operate. This is why learning is important and this is why learning is the most important aspect of being a teacher.
